In the economy of Salvation, we see the Trinity — God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit — at work. It is all about the re-establishing of our lost relationship with our Triune God. That disconnection took place long ago, very soon after the event of Creation. But Jesus had foreknowledge of each one of us in eternity; therefore, He justified us by His precious Blood, and, as we begin a new journey in obedience — in repentance, in faith in Him, and in submission to His Will — we are "sanctified" (that is, consecrated) by the Holy Spirit.
The three parables that Jesus told — of the Good Shepherd finding the lost sheep, of the woman seeking her lost coin, and of the loving father receiving back his prodigal son — all point to the work of the Triune God within our redeemed lives. It is here that we see the Trinity at work: God the Father waits for the lost sinner to return; God the Son, the Good Shepherd, seeks him out and cares for him; and God the Holy Spirit works upon him, sanctifying him, sustaining him, that he may remain firmly rooted in faith, until we are received into His new creation by Jesus Christ, our Lord.
