Some years ago, my home church pastor, his family, and a few of us decided that we would keep a log of all the blessings we receive each day — small and great. In the normal course of things, we do not even notice the small mercies of Jesus, and simply move on. The project did not last more than two weeks, for the reason that every day brought so many blessings that it became impossible to keep the log up to date.
I suggest that you all try this for a couple of days yourselves. For my own part, I have since been able to discern these blessings as they happen. People have a habit of simply saying, "Praise the Lord." It should always be, "Praise the Lord for..."
Witnessing here is a big one.
In June 2018, while I was in Noida during my annual visit, I came down with several symptoms which the doctors concluded, on the evidence of a renal function test, an ultrasound, and the clinical symptoms themselves, to be stage two chronic kidney disease of both my kidneys. Chronic kidney disease cannot ordinarily be reversed, and will typically continue to worsen towards stage five, which is normally the end stage. A very strict diet, and keeping my blood pressure under control, were the only things that could be done. My son took me to Hyderabad, where we consulted a well-known nephrologist, who added further restrictions to my diet.
I carried on as normal, leaving the matter entirely to the will of my Lord Jesus. The tests were repeated several times, and things began to change for the better. In June 2019, when I was again back in Noida, a thorough check-up was done, and all the tests were repeated. The nephrologist said that there was no sign of chronic kidney disease at all, and his parting advice was simply to forget about it and get on with my life.
I do not think this was an accident, or an error in the tests, but the overwhelming grace of Jesus. I am also aware that He may have some use for me — I do not know what, but I am ready. Praise be to Him.
