For Catholics, the 'Hail Mary' is an important part of their life of prayer and worship. While I deeply respect Mother Mary for becoming the instrument in God's hands to bring about His incarnation in the person of Jesus Christ — and while I am mindful of her many sorrows, before and after the birth of her Son, and of what she endured in watching the cruel treatment He received at the hands of His enemies, and finally His death upon the Cross — nowhere in Holy Scripture is Mary said to possess divinity. Jesus Himself declared plainly that He is the Light and He is the Way; it is to Him, directly, that we ought to reach out. I once heard a young priest reason otherwise, and found his argument wanting.
