While contemplating the evil that is permeating our country, the thought occurred to me to check out again what the Bible tells us about the antichrist. Should you find some similarities, it may not be just coincidental. Since I am posting this in a group where people are aware of Biblical pronouncements, I will deal with the matter in a few points.
The term "antichrist" refers to anyone who opposes or denies that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah. The term is used specifically in the epistles of 1 John and 2 John.
1 John 2:18 says: "Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time." This suggests that many have the spirit of the antichrist, denying that Jesus is the Messiah, or conducting themselves contrary to the values Jesus taught us.
1 John 2:22 states: "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son."
1 John 4:3 says: "And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world."
2 John 1:7 warns: "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist."
So, in summary, the Bible portrays antichrists as those who deny that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God incarnate. They represent the spirit of opposition to Christ and the Gospel message. The antichrist is seen as a precursor to the final Antichrist figure prophesied for the end times.
