One does not have to ask the pastor. All of us are said to be headed towards hell, unless we make the necessary turn — though He, too, is with us on that journey.

Are we not missing the point here? If that were truly the way of it, Jesus died in vain, and His resurrection would hold no meaning. Mary Magdalene witnessed an empty tomb, symbolising an empty hell: Jesus did not go before us to prepare a place for us in hell, but in heaven. So when we find ourselves caught between a hard place and a great rock, we have only to push forward.
